#3 Benefit of Memorizing Bible Verses:
If I don’t know the content of His Word how can I obey it?
Have you ever thought, why don’t I do what I know I should do, and do things I know I shouldn’t do?
If so, you are in good company. The Apostle Paul is admired even revered by most believers for his bold evangelizing for Christ. But we see his humanity and humility in his letter to the Romans.
“When I want to do good, I don’t. And when I try not to do wrong, I do it anyway. But if I am doing what I don’t want to do, I am not really the one doing it, the sin within me is doing it” Romans 7:19, 20 (NLT).
A stranger approached me in a store and started a conversation. I thought it must be God wanted me to talk to him about Christ and his plan of salvation. He even mentioned God, what a perfect opening to ask him what he thinks of Christ coming as a Savior. But I let him walk away without saying a word. Ugh!
Paul’s explanation is so pertinent to our struggle.
“It seems to be a fact of life that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. I love God’s law with all my heart. But there is another law at work within me that is at war with my mind” Romans 7:21 (NLT).
Manage This Battle with Bible Memorization
David, the shepherd who fought Goliath states, “I have hidden Your Word in my heart that I might not sin against You” Psalm 119:11, (NLT). If you embed God’s Word in your mind He will bring it to the battle. Paul also instructed the Colossian church to “Let the Words of Christ, in all their richness, live in your hearts and make you wise.
God’s Word is our first weapon in this war. Know it through and through, memorize it.

God’s word is alive!
“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires” Hebrews 4:12, (NLT).
