#1 Benefit of Memorizing Bible Verses: CHANGE (see previous post/blog here)

God’s word initiates change in thoughts and behavior.

#2 Benefit Growth in Holiness

Defining the term Born Again

Growth implies birth took place. Coming to Christ for salvation is many times referred to as being Born Again. Indeed, it is a new birth. The body was born, but the spirit was not yet made alive. It must be awakened to God or born.

The Biblical book of Ephesians explains this.

“Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else” (Ephesians 2:1-3, NLT).

When verse one says you were dead it is speaking of the part of you that acknowledges and can worship God, your spirit, was not made alive. You are a tri-fold being. Body, soul, and spirit. Your spirit is made alive if you have

  • if you have the Holy Spirit of God living within you because of accepting the blood of Jesus

Christ, shed on the cross to cover your sins.

  • if you know that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God and need a Savior
  • then because of this relationship you long to live for this Savior

According to Colossians 2:13 “You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ.”

At which time He will forgave all your sins. He canceled the record that contained the charges against us. He took it and destroyed it by nailing it to Christ’s cross.

“The holiness of God enters our hearts. God transforms our thoughts, hearts, life. God’s word obliterates the status quo.”   Dr. Neil C  Stewart

“And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to live in obedience to Him” Colossians 2:6 (NLT).

The next couple of verses speak of nourishment, admonishing us to let our roots grow down into Him and draw up nourishment from Him. This is how we grow in faith. We fill our minds with His word which makes us strong and vigorous in the truth. Then our lives will overflow with thanksgiving for all He has done.

Just a few more references to learn what the embedded word will do for you and your loved ones. Help your children through this changing world. It’s going to take some supernatural power. Start memorizing these as a family.

  • John 17:17 Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word which is truth:
  • Psalm 19:7
  • Joshua 1:8
  • Colossians 3:16 (NLT)
